[News] The 3rd Annual Meeting of the CSWA Science Fiction Creation Research Base & Academic Forum of Science Fiction Works Held in Beijing

On the afternoon of Nov. 1, 2019, the 3rd Annual Meeting of the China Science Writers Association (CSWA) Science Fiction Creation Research Base & Academic Forum of Science Fiction Works were held in the China Hall of Science and Technology. The event was hosted by CSWA, the Science Popularization Department of the China Association for Science and Technology, the popular science press and the Association for Science and Technology of Haidian District, Beijing, and organized by the CSWA Science Fiction Research Base.
A total of more than 60 participants from the mainstream literary circle, popular science and science fiction circle and related institutions attended the meeting. The participants from the mainstream literary circle included Meng Qingshu, Zhang Zhilu, Wang Quangen, Shi Zhanjun, Yang Hongying, Li Xiaodong, Li Mobo, Kang Chunhua, Yao Ming, Xu Yanli, Zhang Wenwu, Qiao Shihua and Wang Xueming, etc.; the participants from the popular science and science fiction circle included Dong Renwei, Wang Jinkang, Liu Cixin, Han Song, Yao Haijun, Lin Tianqiang, He Xi, Yang Feng, Gong Geer, Lin Tianqiang, Xie Wenping, Bao Jie, Zhang Wenwu, Ye Fangcang, Zhao Feng, Ling Chen, Su Xuejun, Yang Ping, Chen Qiufan, Ji Shaoting, He Chaoqun, Chao Xia, Liu Bing, Yin Chuanhong, Li Lingji, Zhang Zhimin, Wang Dapeng, Yao Lifen, Chen Liuyi, Bao Lin, Hao Zhekui, Liu Xia, and Zhang Gui. Liao Hong, Vice Director of the Science Popularization Department of the China Association for Science and Technology, Yan Shi, Deputy Head of the China Research Institute for Science Popularization, Lin Li, Deputy Party Secretary of the popular science press, Chen Ling, Secretary-general of CSWA, and Wang Weiying, Deputy Director & Secretary-general of the CSWA Science Fiction Research Base, attended the meeting. In addition, over 20 media outlets, such as Tencent, Xinhuanet, China Association for Science and Technology, China Science Communication, People’s Daily, Wenyi Bao, Renminzhengxie Bao, Knowledge is Power and Grand Garden of Science, attended the meeting.
The event was held in two sections. Section I was the 3rd Annual Meeting of CSWA Science Fiction Creation Research Base, which was hosted by Wang Jinkang, famous science fiction writer, Vice Chairman of CSWA and Director of the science fiction creation research base. First of all, Wang Jinkang briefed the representatives and the basics of the base, Wang Weiying, responsible person of the science fiction base, reported on the related work, and Liu Cixin, Honorary Director of the science fiction base, also delivered a speech. In the subsequent discussion on several directional issues on science fiction development, representatives Dong Renwei, Gong Geer, Liu Bing, Zhang Zhilu, Li Lingji, Meng Qingshu, Chen Qiufan, Ji Shaoting, Shi Zhanjun, Yao Haijun and Li Xiaodong discussed over four issues related to science fiction development,namely the development of industrialization of sci-fi movies and animation, etc., science fiction creation and education, science fiction translation and its development overseas, and research status and problems facing science fiction creation. Subsequently, the unveiling ceremony of the Yang Hongying Studio was held under the witness of the participants. After that, Wang Quangen and Qiao Shihua expressed their appreciation for the establishment of the Studio, and Yang Hongying, too, expressed her love and ambition for creating scientific fairy tales.
Section II was an academic forum of science fiction works, which consisted of two sub-forums. Sub-forum I was hosted by Yan Shi, Deputy Head of the China Research Institute for Science Popularization. It was focused on discussion of the science fiction multimedia products by Wang Jinkang, Liu Cixin and Chao Xia, drawing participants Qiao Shihua, Wang Xueming, Ye Fangcang, Wang Quangen, Ji Shaoting, Jiang Bo, Chao Xia and Zhang Wenwu. Sub-forum II was hosted by Yin Chuanhong, Editor-in-chief of the Science Fiction Times. It was focused on He Xi, science fiction China series and award-winning compositions & books, drawing heated discussion from Xu Yanli, Meng Qingshu, Dong Renwei, Yao Haijun, Yang Feng, Su Xuejun, Yang Ping, Lin Tianqiang and He Xi.
The event involved science fiction development in many ways. The participants aired their own opinions, including not only their constructive opinions on but also their hope for science fiction development.
