From May 8 to May 30, the first training course on Popular Science Writing Commentary for 2018 Popular Science Writing - Young Stars Program for Popular Science and Science Fiction was held at Tsinghua University. The training course, co-organized by China Science Writers Association and Tsinghua University, offered courses, creation and guidance on popular science writing commentary in the form of a small-sized classroom, in which Prof. Liu Bing from Tsinghua University lectured more than 10 young trainees from Tsinghua University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Research Institute for Science Popularization.

The training course consisted of two sections, namely theoretical explanations and writing practice, including 3 rounds of class training. With the excellent commentary works as the cases, Prof. Liu Bing detailed the relevant theories and principles of writing regarding popular science commentary from such perspectives of text attributes and target readers. Based on digestion of the theories, the trainees selected from the award-winning works of the 3rd Popular Science Works Awards by the China Science Writers Association, wrote commentaries, and revised them repeatedly under the guidance of the lecturer. A total of 10 commentaries were completely during this training course.

As a new addition to 2018 Popular Science Writing - Young Stars Program for Popular Science and Science Fiction, the training course on popular science writing commentary aims to scout for and cultivate young talents in this field. In the next step, China Science Writers Association will organize the 2nd training course on the same topic in this September.
